Dreaming of… Siasconset

I’ve decided to begin a series of posts of places I’ve been dreaming about while being quarantined at home in NJ. I know we probably won’t be able to travel any time soon… but a girl can dream right?! This series will include my favorite places I’ve been in the world and how to do them right!

So… it only seemed fitting to begin with a place I’ve been to countless times. I get extremely nostalgic looking back at photos I’ve taken in ‘Sconset as I have been lucky enough to spend time there during every summer of my life. The small (like really, really small) village on Nantucket is one of the most beautiful, quaint places in the world. Its charming cottages and beautiful blossoming flowers everywhere in sight create a place so unique, like no other in the world.

When you arrive to the “center” of ‘Sconset there are a few, like really only three or four stores. I love this little sign that I saw a few summers back in on of the stores.

My family loves to just walk around ‘Sconset on sunny summer mornings. The first place we stop is always the Siasconset Market. It is the most adorable, tiny market and its been there for years! We usually grab a cup of coffee and a pastry and then begin to walk around.

I would suggest just going for it and exploring all over town. Everywhere you look there are beautiful flower-covered cottages. It really feels like an American dream! This place is seriously one of the most picturesque and scenic places I’ve ever been.

One of my favorite places to walk, however, is called the ‘Sconset Bluffs walk. Both pictures above this were taken here! This path takes you behind private residences and leads you to look out at the ocean. You get to see many quintessential Nantucket homes and the water! If you go all the way to the end from the ‘Sconset “town center” you will be led to Sankaty Lighthouse… another picturesque area!

Another place I suggest visiting in this little village is the ‘Sconset chapel. It is so old-world charming. Even if you don’t have time for a service the doors are usually open so you can take a peek inside, it is beautiful! If you get the chance to go in, be sure to check out the needle-point kneelers that were hand stitched by a group of locals from the island!

If you’re looking to stay a while:

Because who wouldn’t want to stay a while? Now I cannot necessarily speak from experience (my summer house was growing up was about 15 minutes down the road from ‘Sconset) but I can from other friends recommendations! I have family friends who stayed at Wade Cottages for many, many summers and absolutely loved it there! The cottages actually are along the Bluff Walk! Another fabulous option is The Summer House. They have a fabulous pool and delicious restaurants! Speaking of food…

If you’re looking for a bite to eat:

Like I previously said the Siasconset Market is a great place to grab some coffee and a pastry. Or ice cream in the afternoon!

For Lunch: You must go to Claudettes to get some of the best sandwiches in the world! Take it to go and sit on the beach or sit on their adorable porch and people watch! And definitely pair it with a Nantucket Nectars juice!

For Dinner: Like I said, the Summer House has an excellent restaurant. But The Chanitcleer is truly one of the best restaurants on the entire island! Even though its not on the water it is located in a whimsical garden and has wonderful outdoor seating. You can’t go wrong with either of these restaurants, both have superb seasonal menus with lots of seafood and fresh vegetables!

Some other unique experiences in ‘Sconset:

  1. If you’re a runner- my family loves to run in ‘Sconset. It is so scenic, you forget you’re even exercising! Some of us like the beach, some of us like the Bluff Walk, some of us just like sticking in “town!”
  2. If you happen an early riser- grab some coffee and head to the beach before the sun comes up. You’ll be of the first people on the East Coast to see the sunrise 🙂

I hope you guys enjoyed this post! Siasconset truly is one Earth’s best kept gems. I hope we can all soon begin to travel again but for now we can all dream! xx
