My Closet Transformation

Happy Friday! Today I am sharing my closet transformation and some tips to revamp yours! That before picture is honestly quite embarrassing to share- I like to think of myself as a very neat and organized person but moving clothes back and forth between school and home and an absurd collection of old cards, diaries, artwork from elementary school, and any other keepsakes you could imagine ( the mess seeping from the top right-hand corner, lol) caused my closet to get out of control.

It was time that I put some effort into organizing it. Now is a great time to do things like this around the house too because, well, most of us are stuck at home right now! Here are some tips to follow to efficiently organize your closet!

1. Clean OUT

Like I said, I’ve been hoarding an unusual amount of keepsakes for the last 15 years of my life in the corner of my closet. First order of business for me was to get rid of a lot of that stuff. But for the things I decided to keep I placed in a large plastic container and re-located it to my basement.

I also would suggest going through clothes! I go through my clothes a lot but I have a hard time actually getting rid of things (am I the only one who gets sentimentally attached to clothes?!). This time I really went for a deep clean and ended up either donating things or if I really couldn’t let them go (ahem, sentimental value…) I placed them with my keepsakes in a plastic container in the basement.

2. Move over seasonal clothes if necessary

If you have limited closet space for your clothes, my suggestion is to only keep what you wear for that season in your closet and move the rest elsewhere. This way your closet doesn’t feel over-cluttered and you can have better access to what your actually going to wear.

I have plenty of space for my clothes, but my shoes are kind of a different story. As you can see in the “before” picture my shoes are a disaster. I moved all my winter shoes like boots, suede flats etc to another spot! Why have them take up space when I won’t need them for months.

3. Pant Hanger Problems

I have always had issues with pant hangers. Call me crazy but they always get into a jumbled mess causing me a headache. Recently I’ve noticed a lot of my friends actually fold their pants (lol I didn’t really know people did that). I have absolutely no space in my dressed to store my pants there so I got a little creative and used these Amazon hanging shelves (in beige) to store my folded pants.

4. Container Store will transform your closet space

A trip to the Container Store will totally transform your closet space… I promise! They have so many options to help organize literally any space. I purchased these acrylic shoe boxes to help keep my shoes organized but also safe and clean. I also purchased three acrylic sweater drawers to help organize my folded sweaters. Both of these are on sale right now 🙂

I also purchased a little tassel, fabric storage bin from target to keep all my scarves and winter hats in (in bottom right of the picture). I cannot find it online but this is a similar option!

5. “Decorate” your closet

And by decorate I really just mean show case your favorite pretty items! I put all my favorite heels on the top of my shoe boxes to show case them. I also put all my favorite handbags and other accessories on top of the acrylic sweater drawers.

Another way to beautify your closet is really simple… color! I tried my best to place things of similar color near each other (mainly in everything folded) just to add a little something extra to the aesthetic!

And that’s really it! Have fun with it! If you think of it like a chore, it will become a chore! But if you think of it as something fun that will have a beautiful outcome, you will be much happier while doing it!!

Thanks for reading, I hope you have a fabulous weekend 🙂
