FYI: I am wearing the Spanx leggings and Emily is wearing the Commando leggings!
Are Spanx or Commando the better pair of faux leather leggings? I am typically team Spanx and Emily is typically team Commando … however after discussing all the details, similarities, and differences between our plain black pairs of each brand we’ve come to the conclusion each are better for different reasons.
Let’s discuss the details, shall we?!
Price Point
Both of the leggings are the exact same price, $98. So this really does not make a difference at all!
Seams
The Spanx leggings have more seams (see the waistband?). However, they don’t have a seam down the middle (of the crotch 🤫). The Commando leggings do have a seam down the middle but it is very discrete.
So honestly, that comes down to preference. I like not having a seam there because I think it makes you less susceptible to 🐪 toes and I like wearing cropped sweaters or tees with my leggings.
Emily, however, never wears cropped tops with leggings (it just isn’t her thing) so she really does not mind the seam there.
Elasticity / Stretchiness
I find the Spanx leggings to be a little bit of a thinner material so they appear more stretchy. They also, naturally being a Spanx product, are meant to be tight and suck you in.
Wash
Both brands of faux leather leggings should not be thrown in the wash all the time. Emily and I both try to wash our leggings as little as possible and if we have to we turn them inside out and wash in cold water only.
I’ve also heard you can stick them in the freezer for a few hours and that will eliminate bacterial and then spot treat anywhere you may have spilled. or something.
SPANX 
COMMANDO
Texture
This is one of the main points of differentiation I would say. I would say that Commando has a more smooth texture and Spanx is a little more “pebbly.” Again, this comes down to preference.
THE FINAL FAUX LEATHER LEGGING CONCLUSION
Emily and I have come to the conclusion that the Commando leggings are better for dressing up and the Spanx leggings are better for dressing down. The Commando leggings would look amazing with heels and a longer blouse. Meanwhile the Spanx leggings are great for everyday wear with tees and sweaters.
